Encyclopedia - AgustaWestland AW139

As a joint venture between Agusta and Bell development started on the AB139, a mid-sized twin turbine helicopter. When Bell withdrew from the project the AB139 was given the new designation of AW139.

The first production helicopter took flight in June 2002, and since then in excess of 750 have been built.

with a capacity of 15 the AW139 was well suited to the gas & oil industry ferrying workers to and from rigs off-shore and maritime rescue due to the significant endurance of nearly 6 hours.
